A More Perfect Union: Barack Obama

I found “A More Perfect Union” by Barack Obama to be a beautifully illustrated and delivered speech. Obama’s candidacy and presidency has been a particularly controversial time for our country. He brings up the fact that race is still an issue. In fact, one of the main issues conservatives have with his presidency boils down ultimately down to the fact that he is black. Many people tend to ignore the fact that he is half white and half Kenyan. He believes that our country needs change and he believes that we are capable of boosting our country for the well-being of every citizen despite their racial background and ties. He says that he didn’t run for President for his benefit, but for the benefit of every single citizen. Racial wars have been an issue for our country since its foundation. Whites have been the “power houses” while the rest have been left to fight for what they can get their hands on. In my opinion, white supremacy is what is fundamentally wrong with our country. The idea that one race is more powerful and better than everyone else is tragic. I agree with Obama that we need to see a drastic change. Focusing on the advancement of the human race will allow for this country to reach its full potential.  Imagine every single American fighting side by side to create a stronger, more unified nation. It’s a beautiful idea. Our country was founded upon a Constitution that states equal rights for all. However, our past is riddled with the bloody stain of slavery and oppression. We have come a long way, but we still have further to go. Advancement relies on unifying out citizens rather than alienating and manipulating them into silence.
