In White Privilege: Unpacking the invisible knapsack, Peggy McIntosh confronts the problem of unearned privileges that exist in American society. McIntosh shares the privileges she has received as being white and how it has given her more opportunity. It is evident that these privileges exist when we look at our society and see that one race is dominant. Some of these privileges are oppressive and should be prevented but some privileges are positive and should be granted to everyone. As a solution to this problem McIntosh suggests, "distinguishing between positive advantages which we can work to spread, and negative types of advantages which unless rejected will always reinforce our present hierarchies."
