In “Men Growing Up to Be Boys” I agree
with the writer’s quote, “media has influenced men to lose many of the more
admirable qualities…” Many men have lost
the desirable qualities like loyalty , honor, and duty as well have the image
that real men can stay living the fun life, while getting married is only going
to tie them down. I think the media does
a great job of dividing and conquering the majority of the population. They show these celebrities, major league
players, or whoever else has a high level of status and basically state, if you
want to be like this guy you have to have this or that. With so many lost minds in the world it
becomes very easy to fall into this trap the media sets up.
With woman
becoming more autonomous I think it causes men to look for another way to
attract this woman. For example men-boys
everywhere see all these woman who are independent and don’t need the family
man in their lives so I believe it causes men to become less masculine and more
metro to tend to these women new desire.
Moran
argues motherhood might not actually be the most noble calling for woman, but I
beg to differ. Men and woman were put on
this Earth to do a few things, live your life to the fullest and multiply. So if woman feel that they don’t want to have
kids anymore that is ok, but I feel like the amount of girls to guys ratio that
don’t want to have kids in not in the women favor. Do I think its fair for men to be able to be
single forever while woman need or should have kids? No I don’t but that’s just how the world
turns at this point. I mean no
disrespect when I say this, but if woman didn’t have one thing then men would
put a bounty on their head and start hunting for them. So besides having sex or producing children I
am unsure of what women are around for.
I agree that the signs of masculinity have changed. The media has had a huge influence in this. Way back when men like Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris. These men saved the damsel, beat the bad guys, and were loyal to their friends and tougher than nails. In modern days media shoves celebrities like Lil Wayne and Justin Beiber in our face who walk around in extremely tight skinny jeans meant for women whose main advances in life lead to a somewhat sociopathic selfishness. So in my opinion media has really changed some young men’s ideas of the mainly man.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand in a society where women become the more dominant and independent gender masculinity dwindles in importance. Men start to cower and become nothing less than a vessel whose only necessity is for the reproductive process. This would become more prevalent as the last hope of real “MEN” dwindles off. This should not happen as long as fathers step up and teach their sons not only by word but by action. I know when my time comes I will try my hardest to be a great example.
Women play a very pivotal role in life. Women are not only mothers but wives. A woman is like the other half of a man. A woman is not meant to stand behind a man but beside him. This is prevalent in the president and first lady’s relationship. Besides when he is speaking Michelle is standing beside him not behind him. A woman’s most noble calling is facilitator. This may be for a child, a company, or a relationship. Although being a mother is a very noble calling. Women are the pivotal point in child birth and nurturing. For life to prosper, a man and a woman are both necessary. This relationship should be half and half.
I agree with your point about the media and it’s influence on masculinity; however, I completely disagree with your view on the purpose women. Men use to be gentleman like not animals on the look out. I agree with the statement that men view marriage as something to do when you’re too old for the fun being single brings. The media has done an exquisite job on dividing the genders up in such stereotypical ways. I also don’t agree with the emasculation of men just because woman are equal now and have the opportunity to be more independent. Men are still viewed above woman in society that should not change a man’s view on a woman’s needs. I also agree and disagree with you about what Moran argues. I think men and woman are put on earth to do their certain duties but life has become much more than that now its evolved to living much more complicated lives than in the past. I agree that I don’t think its fair men can be single all their lives but women get looked down upon for the same thing. And your last sentence made me mad lol.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the first point on how the media has changed the masculinity of men today; because for the most part men are becoming less and less of what they used to be traditionally. As women are striding to become more independent, some men are actually taking jobs in the home, which in my opinion is completely because of the media. I also somewhat agree with your claim that motherhood is for all women, because that was the purpose for women on the earth; to multiply. However, that is not their only purpose here on earth, so your last statement I did not agree with. You're also right on the fact that it is not fair for men to keep being single their whole life, while women are supposed to have children, traditionally. This is indeed how the world is becoming, though, and society will inevitably change our traditional opinions.
