Positive and Negative

1.      Pat Archbold believes that keeping their “innocence” is a positive way for women to relate to their body. I believe this because throughout his blog post, Archbold says that pretty is now scarce. He says that pretty is slowly becoming extinct and is being replaced with being hot. Therefore, girls who retain the properties of being pretty are rare and deserve to be respected and protected. On paragraph 5 of Archbold’s post, he says that being pretty and innocent brings out a man’s better qualities, which are to defend and protect. Therefore, women should try to stay pretty and avoid being hot.
2.      Pat Archbold believes that losing their innocence and becoming hot is a negative way for women to relate to their bodies. Like I previously stated, being pretty brings out the best in a man. On the other hand, becoming hot and losing one’s innocence makes a women less desirable. One can assume after reading the text that women who are pretty and innocent are worth marrying. So when a woman is hot, she becomes less of a candidate for marriage. On paragraphs 9 and 10, Archbold says that hotness is “consumable” and needs to be “used up and thrown out”. What does that mean? Does it mean that women no more than mere objects? That is a good assumption after reading those paragraphs.

1.      Susan J. Douglas believes that not being fooled by the media is a positive way for women to relate to their body. Throughout her writing, Douglas talks about how the media tries to fool Americans by believing that women have rights and are completely equal. On page 22, Douglas has a call to action closing paragraph in which she says that women will continue to fight for equality. Ultimately being aware that the media is trying to fool society and continue to fight for complete equal rights is the most beneficial way for women to relate to themselves.

2.      Susan J. Douglas believes that watching some reality shows on MTV is a negative way for women to relate to their bodies. I believe this because on Paragraph 7 Douglas talks about how a lot of reality shows portray girls. College girls that go to college for an education are actually shown to be crazy, wild, and dimwitted. She would even tell her daughter to turn of the TV when shows like that would come on because it shows a horrible image for women.
