A Movie Trailer About How Gender Norms Negatively Affect Men
What do you guys think? Is this an accurate portrayal of what it's like to be a boy or a man in today's society? If not, what's different? If so, how can we make it better?
Wow, I really like this trailer, and I'm going to try and see the movie. Dr. Niobe Way talked about how, as Americans, we don't value things that are considered feminine. Things like caring and empathy and showing emotions are all viewed as weak and only seen as a good thing when women do it. We can make it better by watching movies like this, instead of popular media's ideas of what a man and women should be like. Instead of watching what everyone else is on Netflix, or re tweeting what everyone else is we should control what we watch, listen to and value as individuals. Going with the crowd and liking and valuing what everyone else does makes one feel accepted, which is why people do it. If popular media could focus on messages that are positive, unbiased, and not condemning of feminine qualities then this would be a good thing. Until then, each individual needs to try and focus their attention on such qualities. I believe this would help to solve gender norms negatively affecting men and many other problems.
